Timeline: Season 3, during The Coming of Arthur
~~~
Anticipation thrummed throughout the currents of the lake, waiting anxiously for the arrival of the warlock. This was partially due to Freya who hadn't seen him for years, until just a little while ago. Her one - well, two really - thoughts were that she was able to repay him, and that she had seen him again. Something she didn't know was possible. It was strange enough to die in Merlin's arms, feeling the finality of it all and a little peace washing over her even as the leaning figure above cried for her not to go. It was stranger still when she woke up. She was living and breathing in a body of water, albeit without a body for herself.
Suddenly a splash resounded far louder than it should have; he'd arrived. Smiling to herself, the ghost of a feeling began to spread across Freya. The now foreign feeling of a tight grip on Excalibur's handle spread up her arm, knuckles turning white as seconds dripped slowly by. No, he still wasn't close enough. A surge of current took hold of the boat and its passenger, shoving the tiny craft a little faster towards the center of the lake. Freya bit her lip - so she may have gotten impatient and made the boat go faster. No one had to know but her.
Now Merlin was close enough, and the water surrounding the sword tugged at her hand, eager for its role to come. Up through the bubbles she rushed, blinking in the sunlight that reflected through them. The sword hit air and Freya beamed beneath the water. Here she was giving him something in return for what he gave her. Her grip tightened as an idea flashed through her mind. If the lake was letting her arm out for this, how about more than that? Couldn't she just see him for a little longer? The lake had other ideas and was tugging her back down ever so slightly though, and she wondered if it was wise. That was, until Freya saw his face. Her mind was made up. Pushing with all of her might, the surface broke away with a splash and she gasped for air, her head above water.
